Представляет интерес для широкого круга специалистов в области морской биологии, преподавателей, студентов - зоологов и натуралистов./This book is the first manual in the home literature on the cephalopods of the World Ocean. The designation on all groups of Cephalopods Class is given as well as the determining tables of the orders, families, genera and, in some cases, species. The main attention in the book is devoted to the commercial and mass species of cuttlefishes, squids and octopuses. For each spacies the Latin, Russian and foreing names, brief characteristics of morphology, biology and distribution as well as the data on fishery are given. Аннотация: The article presents not only theoretical background for the primary production (PP) assessment based on hydrochemical indices, but also numerous examples of the PP assessment for polar waters, upwelling zones, and ultraoligotrophic tropical waters. All advantages of the PP assessment based on hydrochemical parameters are shown, including a better representation and a more thorough assessment of PP in the Wordld ocean.

Аннотация: The review on organic matter (OM) as an indicator of productivity of water basins presents a discussion of modern concepts about influxes, transformation, and an outflow of OM from its cycle. Particular attention is paid to rates of primary production of OM in various ecosystems of the Word ocean and the OM input with the riverine discharge. Techniques of the most representative determination of concentrations of major OM constituents (C org, N org and P org) are described. Distribution of the oceanic OM between solution, particulate matter, and sediments is shown. Role of colloidal OM in the organic matter export from the photic layer down to the bottom sediments is outlined. It is shown that in temperate waters dissolved OM is the main form of exported production. The review describes individual importance of the OM biochemical constituents (mainly proteins, carbohydrates, lipids, and nucleic acids) in estimates of productivity for autotrophs and heterotrophs, as well as in assessment of contamination levels in some basins. Routes of the OM consumption and transformation in the marine ecosystem are analyzed. Rates of the OM transformation and oxidation estimated on respective hydrolytic and redox enzymes are cited.

Аннотация: The long-term linkages between climatic and oceanic processes in the North Atlantic, North Pacific, South Pacific (SP), and Antarctic waters for the 1950-2012 period have been studied. Based on the revealed relationships between year class strength of mass hydrobiont populations in these regions and climate variations, their state for the next few decades was assessed. In the Northeast Atlantic (NEA), the population of Norwegian spring-spawning herring (NSSH) will possibly be recruited with some strong year classes until the mid-2020s. However, the tendency toward decrease in stock biomass will continue. The biomass of Northeast Arctic cod (NEA cod) will increase, owing to appearance of strong year classes. In the Northwest Pacific, after 2017-2020 there will be two- or threeford (even four- or fivefold, under the present level of poaching) decline of the Asian salmon stocks. The main walleye pollock stocks will increase after 2017 due to appearance of stronger year classes. In the South Pacific, the oceanic horse mackerel population will remain at a low level during the next 15-20 years. The Antarctic krill stocks will grow and become more available for commercial exploitation.
