Аннотация: Given scantiness of living resources in coastal waters of the Black Sea and their vulnerability, we should prioritize careful and non-waste utilization of marine living resources, development activities aimed at increase of the basin productivity, fisheries management based on concideration of physical and geographical, biological, social, and economic factors. We should highlight the following most urgent tasks: 1) to restrict fishing with active fishing gear in coastal waters of the Black Sea and use mainly passive fishing gear adequate to the available resources; 2) to develop sprtive and recreational fishing; 3) to increase biological diversity and fisheries potential in the cosatal ecosystems through development of aquaculture and construction of artificaial reefs.

Аннотация: Data are presented on the safety and quality of brown seaweeds (Cystoseira crinita and C. barbata) which were collected in different Russian coastal areas of the Black Sea (settlement Dzhubga, Sudak Bay, settlement Shepsi, Blue Bay). The results of investigations have shown that the seaweeds collected in the areas under study comply with the safety requirements of SanPin 2.3.2.1078-01 by neither total infestation nor by lead and mercury concentration. It is a proof of unfavorable ecological conditions of these areas and when these seaweeds are used it will be necessary to carry out their pre-handling aimed at their detoxification. Conditions for preprocessing of this raw material have been worked out. These seaweeds are proved to be a promising raw material item for complex processing and obtaining biologically active components and biological fuels. A promising technological scheme of complex processing of Cystoseira from the Black Sea has been elaborated.

Аннотация: At VNIRO the world's first in practice of national fisheries oceanology the technology of polygon's surveys with the help of towed on sinusoidal track carrier of sea water parameters meters, such as Aquashuttle, was worked out. Approbation of the undulator and working off the methodic of its using were fulfilled in VNIRO cruise in 1996 on the board of R/V "Yuzhmorgeologia" in the Black Sea together with the conducting of satellite experiment. Stations have been made very operatively with using of the probing complex on CTD base and cassette bathometer in the points, which were revealed by the undulator and were of particular interest. It allowed not only assign mezo- and micro-scaled whirling structures on investigated polygon, but significantly to reduce the period of survey. The developed methodic has been used during further fisheries investigations.

Аннотация: A number of plankton laser meters of TRAP family has been developed in VNIRO to estimate the size and quantitative composition of mesoplankton directly in the water column with simultaneous visualization of its spatial distribution both in the mode of vertical probing at the stations and that of vessel running by means of the towed carrier or pumping system. A good choice of the Black Sea as a place for testing, due to the peculiarities of its hydrology, will significantly reduce and optimize the design and verification of virtually all models of plankton laser meters in the TRAP family. Examples of the most significant results obtained during the sea trials of the probe carried out withing various areas of the World Ocean are given.

Аннотация: The Black Sea, as a target region for the 150th issue of Proceedings of VNIRO was not chosen accidentally. And we had several reasons for this choice. It was precisely the Black Sea from where began the history of systematic hydrobiological studies on the territory of the Russian Empire. This count can rightly be held since the moment in 1869, when in Moscow, at the Second Congress on Naturalists and Doctors Nikolai Miklucho-Maclay, called to create marine research biological stations. The Congress encouraged him and took a decision to create the Sevastopol Biological Station that was opened in 1871. Over the past nearly century and half general hydrobiological investigations in the Black Sea region, and fishery studies in particular, have overcome a lot of difficulties, but never stopped, despite all the troubles in the complicated history of our state... Collected papers in this issue of Proceedings of VNIRO are only a part of scientific results which have been achieved in the course of research work in the Black Sea region in recent years.
