Аннотация: Nevertheless, to improve our knowledge about stocks of cod species as well as ecosystems of the Barents and Norwegian seas necessary for development of the optimal strategy for sustainable fishery, we should intensify our efforts on the following issues both at the national, and bilateral levels: development of joint Russian-Norwegian model for the cod stock assessmetn based on the TISVPA approach; development of the agreed model for the fish stock assessment of spring spawning herring and other fish stocks in convention areas; improvement of techniques and methods of assessment and calculation of the Northeast Atlantic cod abundance, including satellite monitoring of both Russian and Norwegian fishing vessels.

Аннотация: Generally, demersal fisheries in the North basin enjoy satisfactory commercial conditions. They correspond basically to the advanced country level and provide prerequisites to the fishing industry modernization and increase in its competitiveness in the global market. Application of some efforts to advancing the state management mechanism, improvement of efficiency in our struggle against illegal fisheries, regulation of domestic fish market, development of policy to promote the national fishing industry at the international level, etc. would provide conditions for achievement of significant progress in exploitation of the North basin demersal fish species in the nearest future.

Аннотация: Given scantiness of living resources in coastal waters of the Black Sea and their vulnerability, we should prioritize careful and non-waste utilization of marine living resources, development activities aimed at increase of the basin productivity, fisheries management based on concideration of physical and geographical, biological, social, and economic factors. We should highlight the following most urgent tasks: 1) to restrict fishing with active fishing gear in coastal waters of the Black Sea and use mainly passive fishing gear adequate to the available resources; 2) to develop sprtive and recreational fishing; 3) to increase biological diversity and fisheries potential in the cosatal ecosystems through development of aquaculture and construction of artificaial reefs.

Аннотация: The Black Sea, as a target region for the 150th issue of Proceedings of VNIRO was not chosen accidentally. And we had several reasons for this choice. It was precisely the Black Sea from where began the history of systematic hydrobiological studies on the territory of the Russian Empire. This count can rightly be held since the moment in 1869, when in Moscow, at the Second Congress on Naturalists and Doctors Nikolai Miklucho-Maclay, called to create marine research biological stations. The Congress encouraged him and took a decision to create the Sevastopol Biological Station that was opened in 1871. Over the past nearly century and half general hydrobiological investigations in the Black Sea region, and fishery studies in particular, have overcome a lot of difficulties, but never stopped, despite all the troubles in the complicated history of our state... Collected papers in this issue of Proceedings of VNIRO are only a part of scientific results which have been achieved in the course of research work in the Black Sea region in recent years.

Аннотация: The potencials of the modern analytical approach to assessment of a total allowable catch (TAC) as the key fisheries management measure were demonstrated on the example of the stock of walleye pollock Theragra chalcogramma (Pallas 1814) in the East of the Okhotsk Sea. The database (DB) of the information system (IS) "Fishery" was used as an alternative source of the initial information for analysis. The observed catches per unit effort ware converted into stock abundance indices. The main emphasis was placed on the following methodological issues: standardization of the observed values of catch per unit effort using generalized linear models (GLM), justifying the choice of the base model of the stock dynamics and the harvest control rule (HCR), risk analysis and other diagnostic procedures aimed to improve the efficiency of the aquatic biological resources management.

Аннотация: Dynamics of mortality estimates in fish populations exposed to selective fishing netting (Kama and Votkinsk reservoirs) is analysed. It is found that mortality rates increase in middle and older age groups which are fished most strongly. On the example of a population for which there are estimates of absolute abundance (bream), near correspondence of mortality rates obtained on the basis of absolute abundance and by virtual calculations for modal age groups is demonstrated.

Аннотация: The paper describes the main problems of fisheries research and the organization of fishing in inland freshwater bodies. Reasons for the low efficiency of the current exploitation of freshwater fisheries resource base are analyzed and ways to improve its development are shown. The necessity of the transition from the management of catch quotas to the number and types of fishing gears on the reservoirs, on the basis of their performance, species and size selectivity. Basic methodological problems and errors encountered in the course of the fish stocks assessment are discussed; the need to enhance the role of experts in commercial fishing in these studies is noted.
