Аннотация: Nevertheless, to improve our knowledge about stocks of cod species as well as ecosystems of the Barents and Norwegian seas necessary for development of the optimal strategy for sustainable fishery, we should intensify our efforts on the following issues both at the national, and bilateral levels: development of joint Russian-Norwegian model for the cod stock assessmetn based on the TISVPA approach; development of the agreed model for the fish stock assessment of spring spawning herring and other fish stocks in convention areas; improvement of techniques and methods of assessment and calculation of the Northeast Atlantic cod abundance, including satellite monitoring of both Russian and Norwegian fishing vessels.

Аннотация: Dynamics of the fishable biomass of the Barents Sea cod in 2000-2007 were stable, with an upward trend in recent years (2005-2007). The result of a correlation analysis made is that the "parents-progeny" relationship is not provided with a significant level, whereas the recruitment of cod aged 3 is directly related to the mean water temperature within 0-200 m, and correlation coefficient was 0.68. The analysis of the dependence of recruitment on water temperature was made formal which enabled us to generate a prognostic model, and evaluate the size of recruitment at age 3. The estimated fishable biomass forecat and TAC for cod of the Barents Sea based on GIS method showed that a possible yield in 2008 will be 629 thousand tons which is 1.5 times greater than it had been suggested by the AFWG.

Аннотация: Obviously, from among the discussed factors we could single out density as being particularly important. It is likely that the current increase in cod catches is associated with increase in the stock abundance which has badly affected the cod growh rates. Another possible cause of the cod growth slowdown is selectivity of the trawl fishery which primarily captures high growht cod.

Аннотация: Generally, demersal fisheries in the North basin enjoy satisfactory commercial conditions. They correspond basically to the advanced country level and provide prerequisites to the fishing industry modernization and increase in its competitiveness in the global market. Application of some efforts to advancing the state management mechanism, improvement of efficiency in our struggle against illegal fisheries, regulation of domestic fish market, development of policy to promote the national fishing industry at the international level, etc. would provide conditions for achievement of significant progress in exploitation of the North basin demersal fish species in the nearest future.

Аннотация: To estimate the red king crab abundance stochastic version of cohort CSA model was applied based on catch from trawl and pot surveys as well as fishery efficiency data. The status of commercial stock of the red king crab in the Barents Sea at present shall not be regarded as critical. Yet strong pressure from fishery produced negative impact on biological and fisheries parameters of the population in 2008-2009.

Аннотация: The daily dynamics of the primary producers' photosynthesis of the South-Eastern Barents Sea in the period of polar day was studied. The experimental work conducted in the Kola Bay coastal zone and on the Kola Section (33degrees30' E, 69-74degrees N). A modified oxygen method of light and dark bottles was used for the primary production estimation. Dissolved oxygen concentration was determined by Winkler. The microalgae photosynthetic activity is associated with daily PAR dynamics. All groups of marine algae retained circadian biological rhythms during polar day. The percentage of macrophytes accounted for major portion of the coastal primary production. Phytoplankton community produces about 1/3 of the total primary production. Phytoplankton starts taking the leading position as a primary organic matter producer towards the open sea. The level of primary production declines compared with the coastal area.

Аннотация: Species composition, distribution reproduction, age composition and biomass of copepods in the northern Barents Sea in 2008-2011 under warming of Arctic are considered in the paper. Main factors which impact on main characteristics of zooplaktton communities are revealed. Dynamics of abundance of Calanus finmarchicus mainly determined by intensity of warm water flux to the Barents Sea, while for rate of ice melting and predation on older individuals and females by pelagic fishes were the most important for C.lgacialis.

Аннотация: The paper presents materials on diet composition and feeding peculiarities of 16 non-target fish species in the Kara Sea in 2007-2011. Diet similarity among studied species as well as among diet of fishes in the Kara Sea and the northern Barents Sea were considered. Three trophic groups were revealed - most species (10 species) were benthivorous, 3 species - planctivorous and 3 species - piscivorous. It was shown that there are potential feeding competitors for commercial fish (polar cod, Greenland halibut). Generally the trophic structure of the Kara Sea fish community is characterized by dominance of benthivorous species (by species number) and low portion of piscivorous species, but the most abundant species belong to planctivorous fish.
